Buccaneers Shutout AMCATS on the Road

PAXTON, Mass – For the second time in four days, the Buccaneers shutout their opponent 20-0. First was at home on Friday against Bay Path, this time on the road against Anna Maria College to improve to run their win streak to three games and improve to 4-3 on the season.

Maritime sophomore Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) and freshman Alyssa Blumenthal (Braintree, Mass) led the scoring with five goals each. Deely added an assist to her score line as well. Sophomore Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass) and junior Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass) scored three times each. Sullivan also assisted on six other Buccaneer goals, Balentine added two assists. Captain Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass) scored a goal of her own and assisted on another. For the third straight game, freshman midfielder Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass) and freshman attacker Nora Mclaughlin (Quincy, Mass) each scored a goal. Attacker Olivia Noonan (Sandwich, Mass) also netted a goal, her third of the season. Defensively, Hannah Mannai (Keene, N.H.) caused a game high three turnovers in the contest. Goalie Laura Kleber (Westport, Mass) faced no shots in the game for the second time in the last week. The freshman net minder has only seen one shots since March 16th.

The AMCATS were unable to get a shot off against the Buccaneer defense all night. They gave the ball away a total of 31 times and cause eight of the Buccaneers 21 total turnovers. Goalie Emma Walsh made seven saves on 27 shots on target and allowed the 20 goals.

Deely, Overstreet, Blumenthal and Sullivan each scored a goal within the first three minutes of the game to take a very early 4-0 lead over AMC. From there, each of them, with the exception of Overstreet, would score two more times before 10 minutes had expired off of the first half clock. The Bucs led 10-0 at that point. With the clock running due to the 10-goal lead, the Buccaneers scored five more times in the final 20 minutes of the half to take a 15-0 lead at the break.

To start the second half, the Bucs scored two goals in the first six minutes, both a man up due to Anna Maria yellow cards. Blumenthal, Deely and Smialek finished off the scored, Smialek's coming last on a free position shot with 7:30 left on the clock, to make the score the final 20-0. With the win, Maritime improved to 4-3 on the season.

Up next for the Bucs is a home game Tuesday night, March 26th, against Becker College at Clean Harbors Stadium at 7pm.
