Kwedor Named As MASCAC Baseball Pitcher Of The Week

Two Massachusetts Maritime spring sport student-athletes earned weekly awards from their respective conferences on Monday afternoon for their season-opening performances last week, as junior attack Keaghan Bartley was named as the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore righthander Brian Kwedor was tabbed as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Bartley, a native of Richmond, Va. and a graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School, netted a hat trick and four assists for a career-high seven points in the Buccaneers’ season-opening 16-6 non-league victory over Albertus Magnus on Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium, as he also picked up nine ground balls in the triumph.  Bartley has averaged a goal per game during his career for Head Coach Rory Deegan’s squad, as he now has 28 markers and 17 assists for 45 points.

Kwedor, a native of Marshfield, Mass. and a graduate of Marshfield High School, tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and struck out a batter to earn his fifth victory in as many career decisions in Massachusetts Maritime’s 8-5 opening game win over Houghton (N.Y.) last Monday afternoon at Lawnwood Park in Fort Pierce, Fla.  The MASCAC honor is the second overall in Kwedor’s career, as he was tabbed as the league’s Rookie of the Week last March 21st after picking up his first collegiate triumph with three scoreless innings of relief against Clark for Head Coach Mike Kelley’s crew.

The Buccaneer men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday afternoon by heading to Portland, Maine to take on Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in a non-league outing at 4:00 p.m. EST, while Massachusetts Maritime opens its Northern baseball slate on Saturday afternoon by entertaining Johnson & Wales in a non-league doubleheader at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon EST.
