FINAL:              COAST GUARD 14, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 10

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Junior Daria McKenna (Mystic, Conn.) scored four goals to lift Coast Guard to a 14-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

The host Bears (3-6) trailed by two late in the opening half before markers by McKenna and freshman Abigail Bradford (Bowie, Md.) in a 14-second span forged a 6-6 draw at the break, but sophomore Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) gave the visiting Buccaneers (0-4) the lead back just 1:22 after intermission.  Coast Guard netted four of the contest’s next five tallies in just over four minutes to take a 10-8 advantage on sophomore Carter Sanderson’s (Stillwater, Minn.) conversion, but Massachusetts Maritime crept back to within one at 11-10 with 6:09 remaining on senior Christina Murphy’s (Forestdale, Mass.) goal.  The Bears iced their triumph by collecting the final three markers of the match, as a pair of goals off the stick of sophomore Anna McGoldrick (Glenside, Pa.) sandwiched a Sanderson tally to account for the final margin.

Bradford added a hat trick in the win for Coast Guard, which also received a goal and an assist from junior Niki Kirchner-Hope (Plantation, Fla.) along with single tallies off the sticks of junior Mimi Coburn (Londonderry, N.H.) and Lydia VanWinkle (West Linn, Ore.).  Overstreet netted four goals and added an assist to finish with a game-high five points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received two goals each from Murphy and junior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.).  Senior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) added a marker and helper as well for the Buccaneers, who received a goal from junior Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.) and a single assist off the stick of senior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.).

Senior Hannah Delguercio (Edgerton, Wis.) picked up the win in goal for Coast Guard with an 11-save effort, while junior Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) also made 11 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 29-24 margin overall (25-21 on goal) and held an 18-8 advantage in draw controls for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Coast Guard entertains Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field that begins at 1:00 p.m.
