BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Freshman Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) scored five goals and added a pair of assists for seven points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 14-12 victory over Framingham State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Boyle helped stake the host Buccaneers (2-4, 1-0 MASCAC) to an early 3-1 lead with a pair of goals that came in the opening 6:38 of action, but the visiting Rams (0-4, 0-1 MASCAC) came back with four tallies in a 10-plus minute span, including a pair off the stick of sophomore Ashley Holmes (East Sandwich, Mass.), to take their only lead of the day at 5-4 with 12:07 to play in the half. Senior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) gave Massachusetts Maritime the lead for good with 5:32 remaining in the half, as the hosts collected four of the final five first half markers to take an 8-6 advantage at the break.

After sophomore Emily Tizard’s (Framingham, Mass.) free position conversion enabled Framingham State to close back to within one at 8-7 4:09 after intermission, but the Buccaneers would score six of the contests’ next eight goals, including a hat trick off the stick of freshman Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.), whose final tally of the day with 5:11 remaining gave the hosts’ a 14-9 cushion. Senior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) brought the Rams back to within a pair in the closing minute, as she netted two goals in a 1:37 span, but Massachusetts Maritime was able to force a pair of turnovers in the final 18 seconds to run out the clock and post its triumph.

Smith finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the victory for the Buccaneers, who also received a hat trick from Courcy as well as a pair of markers off the stick of freshman Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.). Senior Shelagh Hogan (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) added single assists for the winners, who held a 17-11 advantage in draw controls for the afternoon. Masse led Framingham State with four goals in its setback, while Tizard chipped in with a hat trick for the Rams, who also received three points from Holmes on the day. Junior Kerri Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) also collected two goals for the visitors, who also received a goal and assist from sophomore Nicole L’Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) and a helper from senior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, Vt.).

Sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a 14-save effort, six of which came on free position stops, while freshman Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) made 10 saves in the setback for Framingham State as the Rams outshot the Buccaneers by a 28-26 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Becker in a non-league outing that begins at 7:30 p.m., while Framingham State hosts MIT in a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon in Framingham, Mass. beginning at 4:30 p.m.
