McCabe Wins Shot Put Event at MASCAC / New England Alliance Championships; Maritime Finished Men and Women Finish Last In Standings Among MASCAC Representatives

FITCHBURG, Mass – Saturday, the Maritime men's and women's track & field team competed at the MASCAC / New England Alliance Championships, hosted by Fitchburg State University. Though the team finished last on both the men's and women's side of things, Buccaneer Colin McCabe (Dartmouth, Mass) won the shot put event with a qualifying throw of 16.50 meters.

McCabe's throw was 0.73 meters better than that of the second place finisher. Freshman Gerry Mackin (Weymouth, Mass) also competed in the shot put, finishing in ninth place with a throw of 13.29 meters.

Keeping with the throwers theme, Freshman Chris Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass) finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 39.12 meters. Sophomore Jason Baker (Carver, Mass) finished 12th in the event with a 35 meter throw, and Mackin made an appearance in this event as well finishing 20th at 30.82 meters.

In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Alec Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass) finished sixth with a finishing time of 58.80 seconds.

Freshman Brady Bailey (Norwell, Mass) finished in seventh place in the 200 meter dash at 23.01 seconds. He also finished in 10th in the 100 meter with a final time of 11.75 seconds.

On the women's side, freshman Camryn Boyce (Whitman, Mass) finished seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:40.69.

The Buccaneers qualifying athletes, Bailey, Goldenberg, Mackin and McCabe will compete in the Division III New England Championships at Williams College on Friday, May 3rd and Saturday May 4th. Events on those days begin at 12pm and 10am respectively.
