Men’s Track & Field Finishes Second, McCabe sets Record Again at Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass – The Buccaneers competed in their first of two meets this weekend on Friday afternoon in Weston, Mass, hosted by Regis College. The men's team finished in second place behind Husson University with 71 points. The women finished eighth out of 11 teams.

Colin McCabe (Dartmouth, Mass) impressed again this week in the shot put, winning the event with a qualifying throw of 16.66 meters, or 54' 8". The throw once again sets a personal best for McCabe, is the new Massachusetts Maritime Academy shot put record and the throw puts him at the top of the list for Division III men's shot put in New England and seventh in all divisions in New England. The throw was 3.52 meters better than the second place finisher.

Winning the discus event, Buccaneer freshman Christopher Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass) had a qualifying throw of 40.44 meters, 132' 8". 4.9 meters better than the second place finisher. Finishing fourth and fifth in the event were Jason Baker (Carver, Mass) and Gerard Mackin respectively. Chaisson also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 37.80 meter, 124' 0".

After a sixth place finish last week at UMass-Dartmouth, Alec Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass) won the 400 meter hurdle event with a time of 59.60 seconds. He was the only runner to finish in under a minute.

Freshman, Brady Bailey (Norwell, Mass) competed in the 100 and 200 meter events, finishing in third place in both. In the 100 meter Bailey finished with a time of 11.48 seconds, .14 second slower than the winner. He finished with a time of 23.39 seconds in the 200 meter event, just under a second slower than the winner.

Another freshman, David Moeller (Northford, Conn) finished top five in his event, the 400 meter with a time of 56.32 seconds.

In the team relay, Maritime finished second to meet victors Husson with a time of 3:45.58, exactly four seconds ahead of third place finishers, Maine-Farmington.

On the women's side, junior captain Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass) picked up the only points of the day for the team with a fourth place finish in the 400 meter event with a time of 1:05.85.

The Buccaneers are back at it tomorrow when they travel to Fitchburg State to compete in the Jim Sheehan Invitational. Events begin at 10am.
