Bucs Finish Middle of the Pack; McCabe Breaks Own Shot Put Record at Hometown Meet

DARTMOUTH, Mass – The Bucs traveled to UMass-Dartmouth for the Corsair Classic Saturday, the team's second meet of the season. The men's team finished 10th out of 20 teams with a final score of 25. The women finished tied for 15th place with Framingham State and Massasoit Community College with three points.

The story of the meet for the Buccaneers was sophomore Colin McCabe (Dartmouth, Mass). He finished first in the shot put event with a throw of 16.29 meters, or 53' 5.5". The throw not only won the event but it is also a Massachusetts Maritime Academy record, last set by McCabe himself, it is currently the second best throw in all of division three only behind Garrett Garza of Texas Lutheran and is the seventh best shot put across all three divisions.

Not to be outdone, Alec Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass) followed up a sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles a week ago at Bridgewater State with a second place finish this week at UMass-Dartmouth with a finishing time of 58.56 seconds. Just .39 second behind the winner, Michael Tierney of the host school.

In the discus throw, freshman Christopher Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass) finished in fourth place with a qualifying throw of 39.73 meters.

The Buccaneers next meet is Friday, April 5th at Regis College for the Regis Invitational with events beginning at 2pm. They will also travel to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday, April 6th. Events for that meet begin at 10am.
