WESTON, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field team combined to record 25 top 10 finishes during competition at the non-scoring Regis Spring Classic Friday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

 

Junior Ian Chester (Rockland, Mass.) recorded a runner-up finish in the 110 meter hurdles (17.65) and added a third place performance in the javelin (45.45 meters/149 feet, 1 inch) for the Buccaneers, while freshman Frank Mesa (Hialeah, Fla.) notched a second place finish in the men’s long jump (5.70 meters/18 feet, 8 ½ inches) while adding a 10th place performance in the 100 meters (12.14).  Junior Mitch Conroy (Brooklyn, Conn.) added a trio of top 10 finishes by placing third in the discus (34.73 meters/113 feet, 11 inches), seventh in the shot put (11.25 meters/36 feet, 11 inches) and eighth in the javelin (36.80 meters/120 feet, 9 inches) for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a third place performance in the 110 meter hurdles (19.74) along with a pair of sixth place finishes in the long jump (5.25 meters/18 feet, 8 ½ inches) and triple jump (10.26 meters/33 feet, 8 inches) from freshman Jack Koss (Falmouth, Mass.).

 

Junior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) set a school record with a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meters (10:02.57) for the Buccaneers, while freshmen Steven Savoy (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Aaron Diauto (Pembroke, Mass.) notched respective fifth place performances in the 1,500 meters (4:40.99) and 400 meter hurdles (1:02.29).  Senior Tyler Aldrich (Mashpee, Mass.) finished sixth in 800 meters (2:09.02) for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a seventh place performance in the 400 meters (57.08) from sophomore Cal Garufo (Winthrop, Mass.) to go with respective eighth place finishes in the 400 meters (57.14) and 400 meter hurdles (1:08.05) from freshmen Ryan Burns (Plymouth, Mass.) and Shane O’Neill (Georgetown, Mass.). 

 

The quartet of senior Tyler Phillips (East Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore John Driver (Williamstown, Mass.) and freshmen David Moore (Newbury, Mass.) and Alex Monterrey (Sandwich, Mass.) combined for respective ninth place finishes in the shot put (10.20 meters/33 feet, 5 ¾ inches), 3,000 meters (10:38.04), 800 meters (2:17.28) and javelin (32.20 meters/105 feet, 8 inches) for the Buccaneers, who collected a 10th place performance in the 800 meters (2:17.43) from freshman Ryan Welsh (Washington, Conn.).  Massachusetts Maritime’s 4 x 800 relay team consisting of Savoy, Welsh, sophomore Kevin Donato (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Parker Brassard (Plainfield, Conn.) took top honors in the event with a time of 9:49.07, while the 4 x 100 tandem of Chester, Garufo, Diauto and Mesa finished third with a time of 46.67.  The Buccaneer 4 x 400 team consisting of Garufo, Aldrich, Diauto and MacKay recorded a fifth place time of 3:49.39 in the event.

 

Freshmen Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) and Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) set school records with respective third place performances in the women’s 400 meter hurdles (1:16.44) and 3,000 meters (12:38.33) for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (17.61) from senior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.).  The tandem of Ethier, Sheehan, sophomore Sara Merzon (Rockland, Mass.) and freshman Emma Sullivan (Weymouth, Mass.) placed third for the Buccaneers in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 56.96.

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to New London, Conn. on Saturday, April 15th to compete at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
