Outdoor Track & Field Posts Pair Of Respective Fifth Place Finishes At MASCAC Championships

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field team recorded a pair of respective fifth place finishes in the final team standings at the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth, as the event was part of the New England Alliance Championships held in conjunction with the Little East Conference.

 

Junior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) recorded a fourth place performance in the women’s javelin with a mark of 33.67 meters/110 feet, 5 inches, while all three Buccaneer men’s relay teams posted fifth place finishes in those respective races.  The 4 x 100 meter relay quartet comprised of sophomores Ian Chester (Rockland, Mass.), Joe Eastman (Hanover, Mass.) and Joseph Carey (Pembroke, Mass.) along with freshman Cal Garufo (Winthrop, Mass.) posted a time of 48.45, while the 4 x 400 meter tandem of Garufo, junior Tyler Aldrich (Mashpee, Mass.), sophomore Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Kevin Donato (North Andover, Mass.) notched a time of 3:48.04.  Massachusetts Maritime’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Aldrich and freshmen Peter Lowry (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) and Zach Podedworny (Webster, Mass.) also placed fifth overall with a time of 9:22.88.

 

Westfield State captured both MASCAC men’s and women’s crowns in the overall team competition, as the Owls bested Worcester State by 64 points on the men’s side and topped Bridgewater State by 24 points in the final women’s team standings.
