Brain Qualifies For New Englands In Javelin In Leading Outdoor Track & Field At Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. --  Several individuals posted solid performances for the Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field team on Saturday afternoon at the rain-soaked Tufts Outdoor Classic.

 

Freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) placed eighth in the javelin for the Buccaneers, as she posted a New England Division III qualifying mark of 33.91 meters in the event.  Sophomore Bryce MacAndrew (Warwick, R.I.) notched a sixth place finish in the hammer throw (39.88 meters) for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a sixth place performance in the triple jump from senior Ted Mello (Acushnet, Mass.) of 12.19 meters.  Mello added an 18th place finish in the high jump (5.87 meters) during the competition that also saw the men’s 4 x 100 relay team post a 10th place finish (45.84).

 

Junior Sam Hill (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 11th individually in the 400 meter high hurdles (1:01.27) for the Buccaneers, who also received as 12th place effort in the discus (32.78 meters) and a 16th place finish in the hammer throw (34.26 meters) from junior Zachary Poh (Bridgewater, Mass.).  Freshman Peter Hamill (Norton, Mass.) posted an 18th place performance in the javelin (43.12 meters) for Massachusetts Maritime, while senior Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) set a school record in the 5,000 meters (22:58.45) on the afternoon.

 

The Buccaneers return to action next Saturday morning by heading to North Dartmouth, Mass. to participate in the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic that begins at 11:00 a.m.
