BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field teams placed fifth in respective competition at the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships that took place at Bridgewater State’s Ed Swenson Track Saturday afternoon.

 

Junior Zachary Poh (Bridgewater, Mass.) paced the Buccaneers on the men’s side with a third place finish in the shot put (13.95 meters) and a fourth place performance in the discus (43.79 meters), as junior Robert Gratzer (Pembroke, Mass.) placed third in the latter event (44.52 meters) while finishing eighth in the shot put (12.80 meters).  Freshman Tim Lawler (Newburyport, Mass.) collected a fourth place finish in the javelin (50.04 meters) for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a fifth place performance from sophomore E.J. Bennett (East Wareham, Mass.) in the 400 meters (51.18).  Sophomores Sam Hill (Hopkinton, N.H.) and Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Buccaneers with respective sixth and eighth place finishes in the 400 meter hurdles (59.73) and 5,000 meters (16.54.29).

 

Sophomore Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.) posted a pair of 11th place finishes on the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime in both the hammer throw (31.09 meters) and discus (27.87 meters).

 

Host Bridgewater State took its second straight MASCAC title with a 22 point win over runner-up Westfield State on the men’s side, while Worcester State claimed the women’s crown for the second straight year and third time in four seasons in topping Westfield State by 12 points.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will travel to Waterville, Maine on Friday afternoon for the two-day Division III New England Championships that begin at 4:00 p.m.
