DEDHAM, Mass.-- Both Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track and field teams opened their respective seasons with solid performances at the Northeastern Spring Husky Invitational Saturday afternoon on the Solomon Track.

Sophomore Rory O'Donnell (Somerset, Mass.) led the Buccaneer men's squad with a second place finish in the triple jump, as he posted a mark of 12.96 meters as the top Division III entrant in the event. O'Donnell also posted an eighth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters, while freshman Chris Sullo (Canton, Mass.) placed fifth in the high jump (1.83 meters) and 13th in the 110 meter hurdles (18.41).

Junior Jason McWhirter (Melvin Village, N.H.) posted an eighth place performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:44.58 for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a top 20 finish from freshman James Hutchinson (Pembroke, Mass.) in the javelin (45.03 meters).

Sophomore Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) led the way on the women's side for the Buccaneers with a 17th place finish in the javelin (25.40 meters) on the afternoon.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads return to action next Saturday morning by heading to Smithfield, R.I. to participate in the Bryant Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
