Softball Finishes 2019 Season on the Road at Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass – The Buccaneers traveled to Worcester State on Saturday to play the Lancers in the team's final MASCAC and regular season games of the 2019 season. At the end of the day, the Bucs were swept by mercy rule in both games, 16-0 and 9-1.

How It Happened

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning but it was the second inning that was big for the Lancers. They scored seven runs, two on a home run by Kaiulani Ennis (Swansea, Mass) over the right field fence.

Up 7-0 after two and a half, Worcester added four runs in the bottom of the third. Two scoring on a triple by Ashley Lynch (Shrewsbury, Mass).

The hosts would extend their lead to 16-0 in the fourth which would be the score at the end of five, sealing game one for the Lancers.

Worcester batted 18-for-36 in game one. Four players had three hits game, one had two hits.

The Lancers did not draw a walk in the game, struck out once and left four runners on base.

Maritime had three hits in the game, batting 3-for-19. Two hits came off the bat of Captain Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.), the other from senior Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass).

The Buccaneers did not walk in the game, struck out seven times and left four runners on base.

 

Game Two

How It Happened

Like game one, the teams did not score in the first inning and Worcester scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead after two.

In the third, the Bucs answered on a ground out by Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass) scoring Jordan Currie (Quincy, Mass) from third. That would be all Maritime could muster in the game. Worcester added two runs in the bottom of the third frame to take a 4-1 advantage.

The 4-1 score would remain until the bottom of the fifth. Needing five runs to end the game by mercy, the Lancers scored the five runs take the 9-1 game two win and sweep of the Bucs.

Worcester went 12-for-28 at the plate in game two. Haley Scola had three of the Lancer hits and scored twice. Two other players had two hits in the game. Samantha Stake drove in three runs in the win.

The Lancers did not walk, struck out once and left three runners on base.

Maritime had four hits in the game, going 4-for-18 at the plate.

Pittsley drove in the love run for the Bucs.

Goodwin had the only extra base hit for the Bucs, a double.

Maritime drew the only walk of the day, struck out twice and left four runners on base.
