Buccaneer Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped by Owls

WESTFIELD, Mass – Friday afternoon, the Buccaneers travelled to Western Massachusetts to take on Westfield State in a pre-Easter MASCAC double header. They dropped both game in five innings by mercy rule, game one 16-0, game two 11-1.

 

Game One

How It Happened

It was all Westfield in game one as they scored 16 runs, 15 of which came in the first two innings. They scored seven in the first and eight in the second. They would add another in the fourth to complete their 16-0 win in game one over the Bucs. Starting pitcher Emily Arredondo (Woburn, Mass) threw a perfect game again Maritime.

At The Plate

Westfield batted 15-for-29 at the plate in game one. Kaitlynn Prophet had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored for the hosts. Three other players had multi-hit games for the Owls.

Four players drove in three runs for Westfield.

Prophet and Jordan Carpenter each had extra base hits, a double and triple respectively.

The Owls walked twice, didn't strike out and left four runners on base.

The Buccaneers were 0-for-15 in the game as Arredondo completed a perfect game. The Bucs did not reach base once and struck out six times.

 

Game Two

How It Happened

The first inning was the big innings once again in game two for the Owls as they scored eight in the first frame, including a grand slam off the bat of Sarah Meunier to double their lead at the time. The owls added a run in the second to take a 9-0 lead.

 

Maritime got on the board for the first time all day in the top of the third inning when Jenna Nalette (Goffstown, N.H.) singled through the infield, scoring Jordan Currie (Quincy, Mass).

 

In the bottom of the fourth, Westfield scored two additional runs to run the score to the eventual winning score after five innings, 11-1.

At The Plate

Westfield was 10-for-22 at the plate in game two. Including two hits off the bat of Colleen Hughes, the only owl with a multi-hit game.

Meunier drove in four runs on her grand slam, Hughes and Karly Mastello each drove in multiple runs as well.

The Owls drew five walks, did not strike out and left four runners on base.

Maritime had four hits, going 4-for-20 in game two. Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass) had two of the four hits. Nalette drove in the lone run.

Pittsley had the only extra base hit for Maritime, a double.

The Bucs did not draw a walk in the game, struck out eight times and left five runners on base.
