Buccaneers Tame Gators in Doubleheader Sweep

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Thursday afternoon, the Buccaneers hosted Pine Manor at Alison Rollins Field after sweeping the Gators on Tuesday in Chestnut Hill. The Buccaneers had the same fortune on Thursday, sweeping the Gators in both games, by mercy rule, 18-3 and 12-0.

 

Game One

How It Happened

Pine Manor struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Bucs answered in the bottom of the inning, cutting the lead in half on a Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.) single, scoring Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass).

The Bucs held the Gators in the top of the second inning and went on a six run rally in the bottom of the frame. The first two runs of the inning scored on a Camryn Roberts-Capak (Marstons Mills, Mass) double, plating Jenna Nalette (Goffstown, N.H.) and Hannah Benton (Barnstable, Mass). Senior captain Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass) also drove in two runs later in the inning on a single to left field.

Maritime added four runs in the bottom of the third, two on a Rachel Gardner (Bourne, Mass) single to right center.

Down 11-2, the Gators scored a third run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to eight runs on a Maritime miscue. The Bucs capped off the scoring in the fourth, scoring seven more times, two on bases loaded walks. The Bucs took game one, 18-3, in five innings.

Pine Manor batted 5-for-20 in game one and had five hits in the game from four different players.

The Gators drew no walks, struck out six times and left three runners on base.

Maritime batted 12-for-23 in game one. Pittsley and Roberts-Capak each had three hits in the game. Roberts-Capak had four RBI in the game. Pittsley score four times.

The Bucs walked 12 times, struck out three times and left five runners on base.

 

Game 2

How It Happened

Maritime scored their first run in the bottom of the first on a lead-off, inside-the-park, home run by Lucia Buzzell (Quincy, Mass). Later in the inning, Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.) scored on a wild pitch.

The Bucs doubled their lead in the second, scoring two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

The third inning was the big inning for the Buccaneers, scoring eight runs, including two on a Jenna Nalette (Goffstown, N.H.) single up the middle, two more on a Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass) double to left center, and two others on a Savanna Leite (New Bedford, Mass) triple to left.

Unable to score in the fourth or fifth, the Buccaneers sealed the 12-0 win and sweep of the Gators for the second time this week.

Maritime went 10-for-25 at the plate in game two. Buzzell, Pittsley and Roberts-Capak each had two hits in the game. Buzzell and Pittsley both drove in three runs and scored twice.

Maritime walked four times, struck out once and left five runners on base.

 

Up Next: The Buccaneers are on the road tomorrow, Friday, April 19th, at Westfield State to take on the Owls in MASCAC play. Games begin at 1:30pm.
