Goodwin Appointed To NCAA Division III National SAAC

Massachusetts Maritime junior softball standout Emily Goodwin has been appointed to the NCAA Division III National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference’s representative.  The announcement was made by the NCAA and MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann last week.

A native of Halifax, Mass. and a graduate of Silver Lake Regional High School, Goodwin will serve a three-year term on the Division III SAAC beginning immediately, as she will join conference representatives from across the country in fostering discussions on issues affecting intercollegiate athletics and participating in events centered around the student-athlete experience.

“The first two years of my college experience have been enhanced with memorable experiences of giving back to members of the Academy family and the communities that I am proud to call home through my involvement in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and I am extremely honored, humbled and excited to continue that growth on behalf of all student-athletes at my school and throughout the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference,” Goodwin said of her appointment.

Goodwin is the second Buccaneer to be named to the NCAA Division III SAAC in the last eight years, as former cross country and outdoor track & field standout Kaitlin O’Donnell ’10 also represented the MASCAC during her matriculation at the Academy.  Emily started in 21 of her 22 games played at first base last spring, as she rapped out three doubles and drove in eight runs while helping her squad post its highest single-season victory total in over a decade.

Over each of the last five-plus years, Massachusetts Maritime cadets have held positions of leadership on the MASCAC SAAC, as including men’s cross country all-league performer James MacVarish ’17, who served as the conference’s vice president.
