Nalette, Cochrane Named As MASCAC Softball Pitcher, Rookie Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime freshmen Jenna Nalette and Melissa Cochrane were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances in the Buccaneers’ doubleheader sweep of Daniel Webster last Tuesday at Alison Rollins Field.

Nalette, a native of Goffstown, N.H. and a graduate of Trinity High School, tossed a three-hitter and struck out five to earn her first career victory and shutout in the 8-0 opening game triumph over the Eagles, as she has yet to allow a run in her first seven collegiate innings pitched.  Jenna has scattered four hits and is averaging a strikeout per inning in the early going while holding opponents to a .167 batting average.

Cochrane, a native of Walpole, Mass. and a graduate of Walpole High School, batted .714 (5-7) in the twinbill sweep for Massachusetts Maritime, including four hits to help her own cause inside the circle.  Melissa tossed a four-hitter and fanned five to earn her first career win and shutout in a 17-0 nightcap victory, and in four games she sports a team-best .538 batting average to go with a .692 slugging percentage.

Head Coach Megan Giammalvo’s Buccaneers, who stand at 2-2 overall on the young season, open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon by heading to Worcester State for a league doubleheader that begins at Noon EDT.
