FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Senior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) tossed a no-hitter and helped her own cause with a pair of hits at the plate as Framingham State swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Monday afternoon by scores of 17-0 in the opener and 14-0 in the nightcap in five inning games played at Farley Field.

The host Rams (18-18, 8-6 MASCAC) were limited to three hits in the opener in receiving three RBI from sophomore Jessica Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.), as senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) allowed a hit and fanned four over the first 3 2/3 innings of work to earn her fourth win of the season.  Sophomore Ashley Michalski (Portsmouth, R.I.) rapped out a double in the lid-lifter for the visiting Buccaneers (0-20, 0-14 MASCAC), who also received a single off the bat of freshman Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.).  Sophomore Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) allowed seven earned runs and struck out two in going the distance inside the circle for Massachusetts Maritime.

Smith walked one and struck out eight in her nightcap no-hitter for Framingham State, which scored 12 runs in its first two at-bats to take control of the contest.  Sophomore Emily Kattau (Gardner, Mass.) drove in three runs for the winners, who also received two hits off the bat of sophomore Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) as part of a nine-hit Ram attack.  Nice went the distance inside the circle for the Buccaneers in allowing eight earned runs.

Framingham State is seeded fifth in the 2014 MASCAC Championships and will travel to Salem, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take on fourth-seeded Salem State in an opening round contest beginning at 4:30 p.m.  Today’s twinbill concluded Massachusetts Maritime’s season.
