GAME #1 FINAL:                 BECKER 8, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0 (5 INNINGS)

GAME #2 FINAL:                 BECKER 18, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1 (5 INNINGS)

LEICESTER, Mass. --  Sophomore Kelsey Nordberg (Uxbridge, Mass.) allowed one hit and struck out 18 in 10 innings pitched, including a five-inning ho-hitter in the opener, to lead Becker to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon by scores of 8-0 in the opener and 18-1 in the nightcap in games played at Alumni Field.

Nordberg walked three and struck out nine in the opener to notch the no-hitter for the host Hawks (6-12), who jumped out to 2-0 second inning lead on freshman Bethany Stone’s (Norwich, Conn.) RBI groundout and a wild pitch.  Becker tacked on single runs in the third and fourth frames on a pair of wild pitches, and the hosts iced their first game triumph with four fifth inning tallies that featured a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman Ashley Ciepiela (Adams, Mass.) and a bases-loaded walk to Stone.  Sophomore Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) allowed just five hits in suffering the opening game setback inside the circle for the visiting Buccaneers (0-8), as she struck out three.

The Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 first inning advantage in the nightcap before adding three runs in both their second and third at-bats, and a seven-run fourth inning rally accounted for the second game final.  Junior Jessica Brochu (Hardwick, Vt.) drove in five runs, including a two-run homer, in the nightcap victory for Becker, which also received two hits and three RBI from Ciepiela.  Juniors Lauren Lavalle (Millbury, Mass.) and Megan Bolduc (Dover, N.H.), along with sophomore Katelyn MacLean (North Reading, Mass.), also added three hits each in support of Nordberg, who fanned nine once again in allowing an infield single in the second to improve to 6-6 on the season.  Sophomore Brittany Driscoll (Sutton, Mass.) rapped out that hit in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which plated its lone run in the fourth on a steal of home by senior Crystal Sherman (Charlton, Mass.).  Freshman Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.) went the distance inside the circle for the Buccaneers in the second game and fanned a pair.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader that begins at Noon, while Becker travels to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
