Sherman, Weir And Driscoll Tabbed As 2014 Softball Tri-Captains

As preparations continue for the start of the 2014 Massachusetts Maritime softball season, second year Head Coach Megan Giammalvo has tabbed a trio of upperclassmen to serve as Buccaneer tri-captains this spring, as senior Crystal Sherman, junior Meghan Weir and sophomore Brittany Driscoll will serve in those leadership roles.

Giammalvo, a former standout at Salem State who has been part of the Massachusetts Maritime program as both the head and assistant coach for the last six years, describes the trio as “committed to making their teammates better on and off the field and setting a positive example to follow.  Their work ethic will pay great dividends in the long run.”

Sherman, a native of Charlton, Mass. and a graduate of Shepherd Hill High School, and Weir, a native of North Andover, Mass. and a graduate of North Andover High School, anchor the left side of Massachusetts Maritime’s infield, as Sherman moves from centerfield to shortstop after amassing nine hits, including three doubles, as a sophomore.  Weir returns to her spot at third base after rapping out three hits last spring, while Driscoll, a native of Spencer, Mass. and a graduate of Holy Name High School, started in 20 games in the outfield for Giammalvo in 2013 and collected six hits, including a trio of two-baggers.

The Buccaneers begin the 2014 season on Saturday afternoon when Massachusetts Maritime hosts Lyndon State in a non-conference twinbill at Alison Rollins Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
