BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Emily Pontes (Tewksbury, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in six runs, while senior Brittany Eldridge (Raynham, Mass.) and freshman Becky Williams (Hope Valley, R.I.) combined for a nightcap no-hitter to lead UMass Dartmouth to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader by scores of 13-2 and 12-0 in a pair of five innings contests played Friday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field.

The visiting Corsairs (3-9) jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the opening contest before icing their triumph with nine runs in the final two frames, as Pontes collected three hits and three RBI while junior Breanna Marcyoniak (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Gregoire (Dartmouth, Mass.) each had two hits and three RBI.  Freshman Olivia Kenyon (Canton, Mass.) joined Pontes with three hits in the first contest for UMass Dartmouth, which rapped out 12 hits in support of senior Ashley Felaccio (Acushnet, Mass.), who picked up her first win in three decisions on the spring in allowing an earned run and striking out seven over the first three innings of work.  The host Buccaneers (2-8) plated a run in the first when junior Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) stole home on a double-steal with junior Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) and added a second tally in the second on an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Crystal Sherman (Charlton, Mass.), who collected two of Massachusetts Maritime’s five opening game safeties.  Senior Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.) joined Beaulieu and Thibeault with single hits in the opener for the Buccaneers, as Beaulieu suffered the setback inside the circle.

UMass Dartmouth jumped out to a 2-0 third inning lead in the nightcap and took control of the contest by sending 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run fourth inning rally that was highlighted by a three-run inside-the-park homer by Pontes, her first of the season.  Kenyon, Gregoire and senior Kaitlin Hogan (Tewksbury, Mass.) also collected two hits each as part of a 12-hit Corsair attack in support of Eldridge, who helped her own cause with two hits and three RBI while fanning five over the first four frames on the mound to improve to 2-3 on the season.  Senior Hannah Rounds (Lincoln, R.I.) also drove in a pair of runs for the visitors, as Williams escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth to preserve the combined no-hitter with Eldridge.  Sophomore Jennifer March (Pawtucket, R.I.) fanned one in going the distance inside the circle for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Adams, Mass. on Sunday afternoon for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with MCLA that begins at 1:00 p.m., as the Buccaneers and Trailblazers were to have played on Saturday, but the contests have been postponed to Sunday due to the impending inclement weather.  UMass Dartmouth is scheduled to host UMass Boston in a Little East Conference twinbill on Saturday afternoon in North Dartmouth, Mass. that begins at Noon.
