BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Leigh Trzcinski (Worcester, Mass.) rapped out six hits, while junior Lauren Donell (Ayer, Mass.) and freshman Danielle Correia (West Bridgewater, Mass.) each drove in four runs to lift Fitchburg State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 12-5 in the opener and 11-1 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field.

Trzcinski’s RBI single in the fourth inning of the opener snapped a 5-5 tie and lifted the visiting Falcons (9-21, 3-7 MASCAC) to a five-run rally in the frame, as Fitchburg State also received RBI singles from Donell, Correia and sophomore Ashley McKinnon (Raynham, Mass.) along with a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Melissa Wadman (Dedham, Mass.) in scoring the final seven runs of the contest to post the first triumph.  Donell drove in three runs with a pair of hits in the opener for the visitors, who also received three hits and two RBI each from Correia and junior Kristen Love (Londonderry, N.H.) as part of a 12-hit attack in support of sophomore Allison Cousins (Leominster, Mass.), who went the distance and fanned four to earn her third victory of the season inside the Falcon circle.

Sophomore Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opening game setback for the host Buccaneers (2-20, 0-10 MASCAC), as her two-run double in the third helped Massachusetts Maritime overcome an early five-run deficit that included an RBI groundout by senior Jess O’Meara (Stoneham, Mass.) in the first as well as a wild pitch and an RBI single by junior Katie Maynard (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the second.  Freshman Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) also rapped out a pair of hits, including a triple, as part of an 11-hit attack in the first contest for the Buccaneers, as she allowed six earned runs and fanned three in going the distance inside the circle for the hosts.

Fitchburg State jumped out to a 7-0 lead through its first two at-bats in the nightcap, as Correia and McKinnon each drove in a pair of runs in the first two frames for the Falcons, who collected 12 hits in the second contest to complete the sweep.  McKinnon joined Trzcinski with three hits in the nightcap for the visitors while driving in a pair of runs, as Correia and junior Meghan Jenkins (Dedham, Mass.) also rapped out a pair of hits each for the visitors in support of senior Bethany Stone (Wells, Maine), who scattered five hits and struck out four in going the distance inside the circle for the visitors to pick up her second win of the season.  Maynard collected two hits in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, as McLaughlin rapped out her second double of the day and freshmen Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) and Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) each collected singles for the hosts.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Bridgewater, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for a MASCAC twinbill with Bridgewater State that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Fitchburg State heads to Worcester, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for a MASCAC doubleheader with Worcester State that begins at 5:00 p.m.
