MMA Vs. Fitchburg in Doubleheader

Fitchburg State (12-21 overall, 7-7 MASCAC) took a 6-0 lead into the fourth before Massachusetts Maritime Academy (1-26 overall, 0-12 MASCAC) posted their first run. The Falcons then added another five runs in the top of the fifth on the way to an 11-1 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. FSC claimed the second game 11-0.

Bethany Stone (Wells, ME) went the full five innings in the opener, allowing just the one unearned run by the Lady Bucs. She gave up three hits, walked two and struckout five. Cali Longtin (Feeding Hills, MA) took the loss for MMA.

Leigh Trzcinski (Worcester, MA) led the Falcons at the plate with a grand slam in the top of the fifth that cleared the right-centerfield fence. Jean Couture (Chicopee, MA) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as FSC knocked out 10 hits in the opener.

Longtin scored the lone run for the Lady Bucs.

In the second game Stephanie Melanson (Malden, MA) pitched a perfect game through four innings before surrendering a two-out single in the fifth to MMA senior second baseman Kerri Berthelette (Taunton, MA). Melanson allowed just one more hit the rest of the way, that coming to senior Kristina Knowles (Braintree, MA). Berthelette and Knowles, the only two seniors on the Buccaneers roster, were playing the final game of their careers at home.

FSC scored twice in the opening frame then added four more in the third. Trzcinski continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI. She drove in three runs with a triple in the fifth.
