Offshore Sailing Team Finishes Third at McMillan Cup; Qualifies for Kennedy Cup

ANNAPOLIS, Md – This past weekend, the MMA Offshore Sailing Team competed in the McMillan Cup at the Naval Academy.

Maritime finished in 3rd place, 1 point out of 2nd, finishing ahead of the Naval Academy, Coast Guard, Kings Point and Army. The finish qualifies the team for the Kennedy Cup, at the Naval Academy on November 3rd and 4th, which is the National Championship.

Saturday the teams raced in extremely windy conditions. There were shifty winds, gusting over 20 knots, nearly 23 miles per hour. Sunday was just the opposite, with no wind to be felt the teams were unable to compete.

Junior Evan Bowen, freshman Jake Burwell, senior McKenna Jarvis, freshman Joshua Nehrings, senior Matthew Schaefer, sophomore Colin English, freshman Christopher King, and senior Frank Reeg all competed for the Buccaneers at the event.

The Buccaneers will not compete again until the Kennedy Cup, at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on November 3rd and 4th.
