Offshore, Dinghy Sailing Squads Enjoy Weekend Success At Storm Trysail, URI Moody Trophy Regattas

LARCHMONT, N.Y./KINGSTON, R.I. --  Both the Massachusetts Maritime offshore and dinghy sailing teams enjoyed strong finishes in their respective events over the weekend at the Storm Trysail and Rhode Island Moody Trophy regattas.

 

The Buccaneers placed fourth in the Storm Trysail event off Long Island Sound, as senior Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.), juniors McKenna Jarvis (Dedham, Mass.), Evan Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.), Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.), Bogdan Shcherbyna (Ashland, Mass.) and Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.), sophomore Luke Turner (Centerville, Mass.) and freshman Colin English (Hopedale, Mass.), competed in the event, which was won by Maine Maritime.  Massachusetts Maritime topped rival SUNY-Maritime in the final team standings.

 

In dinghy competition, the Buccaneers recorded a 15th place finish in the event at URI that was won by St. Mary’s (Md.) by a point over Yale.  Senior Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.), junior Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.), sophomores Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.), Megan Laurie (North Weymouth, Mass.) and Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.), along with freshman Christos Karplus (Falmouth, Mass.), sailed over the course of the weekend for Massachusetts Maritime, which topped Eckerd, California Maritime and Washington (Md.) in the final standings.

 

The Buccaneer dinghy sailing squad will host the Great Herring Pond Open Regatta this weekend at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center in Bourne while also competing at the Providence Invitational.
