Annapolis, Md.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --  The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team recorded a strong third place performance among 11 schools competing at the Navy McMillan Cup Regatta over the weekend on Chesapeake Bay, as the result ensures that the Buccaneers will return to Annapolis in two weeks for the prestigious Navy John F. Kennedy Cup Regatta, which is the Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s offshore national championship.

Senior Christopher Dawson (Mashpee, Mass.), juniors McKenna Jarvis (Dedham, Mass.), Evan Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.), Bogdan Shcherbyna (Ashland, Mass.) and Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.), sophomore Luke Turner (Centerville, Mass.) and freshman Colin English (Hopedale, Mass.), competed in the event for Massachusetts Maritime, which finished behind host Navy and runner-up Merchant Marine in the final standings.  The Buccaneers topped Coast Guard, SUNY-Maritime and Rhode Island in the competition, which was hampered by light winds throughout the weekend.

Massachusetts Maritime will seek its second Kennedy Cup championship upon returning to Chesapeake Bay on November 4-5, as the Buccaneers captured their first crown back in 2001.
