Bucs Place 79 on All-Academic, Five for Fourth Time

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Association announced its Spring All-Academic Team, and a whopping 79 Buccaneer athletes were listed. In total, cadets from eight sports were honored, with at least four men and four women in each. Men’s lacrosse claimed the most honorees, as 17 players were tabbed for the list.

Spring Dinghy Season Concludes at New England Championship

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Sailing Team concluded its busy April this past weekend at the U.S. Coast Guard Alumni Bowl, which served as the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Co-ed Championship. As one of nine NCAA Division-III universities out of a field of 18, the Buccaneers finished 17th despite an excellent effort by its B Division pairing.

Women Compete for New England Sailing Title

Facing their toughest competition of the year, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy female sailors gained valuable experience at the NEISA Reed Trophy, the New England Women’s Championship. In a regatta that included New England’s finest women’s sailing programs—with 10 NCAA Division-I universities, including five Ivy League teams—the Buccaneers finished 17th.

Young Maritime Sailors Best Minutemen, Terriers at Southern Series

Competing once more against boats representing Division-I universities, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy sailing team finished sixth out of eight universities at the University of Rhode Island’s Southern Series, despite the Buccaneers sending squads to three different regattas over the weekend.

Sailors Impress at D-I Meet, Host O’Toole Regatta

Two weekends ago, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy sailing team competed at four different competitions. At the George Morris Trophy in Boston, the team achieved 10th place out of 15, which was most impressive given the competition. Meanwhile, in a home meet, Buccaneer sailors were sixth of 12. Sailing Competes in Two J70 Meets, Defeats Maine Maritime

In addition to the regular dinghy team and regular races, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy sailing team competed in two J70 competitions at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in April, improving from fifth earlier in the month to fourth in Saturday and Sunday’s meet. In the first meet, the Buccaneers defeated Maine Maritime Academy, while the second marked the first time the sailors bested local rivals Roger Williams University in any competition this spring.

Reeg, Clays Lead Sailing to New England Championships

Frank Reeg and Sydney Clays took first place overall in the New England Dinghy Tournament and Alex Bowen and Meghan Laurie took first place in the B Division as Massachusetts Maritime Academy won the meet and qualified for the New England Dinghy Championships.

Bowen and Laurie Sail Maritime to First Team Race Victories

On a beautiful day for sailing, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Sailing Team earned its first team sailing win, defeating Roger Williams University to end Round One, starting the second win another win over the Hawks. The sailors went on to win 5-for-12 races to finish third in the Herring Pond Team Race.

Though it is not yet obvious in the results, Massachusetts Maritime Academy Sailing is making quick improvements as the season progresses. Facing a tough lineup at the Connecticut College Regatta this weekend, the Buccaneers finished sixth in a field with three NCAA Division I universities.

Sailors from Brown, Salve Regina, UMASS Amherst, and Massachusetts Maritime Academy arrived at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center to a 10 knot northwesterly and chilly 20 degree temperatures. Though the event was called early due to the weather conditions, but not before Buccaneer team MSM 1 took home First Place in the Central Series Regatta No. 1.
