Dinghy Sailing Encounters Extreme Weather Conditions At Vermont Ross Trophy Regatta

BURLINGTON, Vt. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team encountered extreme weather conditions over the weekend in competition at the Vermont Ross Trophy Regatta, as those conditions gave way to light winds after opening day action was cancelled due to heavy wind and waves on Lake Champlain.

 

Sophomore Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and freshman Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat, while senior Kyle Brego (St. John, Virgin Islands) and freshman Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) sailed in the “B” vessel at the start of Sunday’s competition.  Bowen and junior Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) comprised the “A” team in the final race for Massachusetts Maritime, with Stephani moving to the “B” boat for Sunday’s last race.  The weather took its toll on all competitors, as the Buccaneers finished 12th overall in the final team standings.

 

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action next weekend by hosting the Central Series Three Invitational at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center, and the Buccaneers will also compete at the Rhode Island Salt Pond Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
