Offshore Sailing Places Fifth Overall At Prestigious Navy Shields Trophy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --  The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team placed fifth at the prestigious Navy Shields Trophy Regatta that took place over the weekend on Chesapeake Bay.

 

The Buccaneer crew consisting of seniors Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.), George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.), Christopher Mannka (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.), along with sophomores Joshua DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) and Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.), posted a team score of 30 points in the event that saw light breezes throughout.

 

The host Midshipmen took top honors with a team score of 12 points, while Coast Guard edged Queens University by one point (20-21) for the runner-up spot.
