NEW LONDON, Conn. -- After earning the program’s first top 20 coed ranking in New England in a decade, the Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team closed out its fall slate with a 17th place performance at the Coast Guard Schell Trophy Regatta on the Thames River over the weekend. The event is emblematic of the New England Dinghy Championships.
Sophomore Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and junior Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” entry during the weekend, while junior Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.), sophomore Catherine Haines (East Haddam, Conn.) and freshman Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) sailed in the “B” vessel. Southwesterly breezes and extreme currents prevailed throughout the regatta, which hampered competitors on both days.
Yale took top honors in the final standings with a score of 106 points, as the Bulldogs bested runner-up MIT (136) and third place Bowdoin (140) in the event.
