MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME DINGHY SAILING

Central Series Three Regatta

Keith Hartford Sailing Center, Bourne, Mass.

BOURNE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team took advantage of perfect conditions over the weekend on Great Herring Pond, as the Buccaneers finished as the runner-up in the six-team Central Series Three Regatta at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center.

Seniors George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) and Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) comprised Massachusetts Maritime “A” boat crew, while the Buccaneer “B” crew consisted of seniors Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) and Christopher Dawson (Mashpee, Mass.), sophomore Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and freshman Alex Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.).  A strong effort in Sunday’s races lifted the hosts past Tufts into second place in the team standings, as Massachusetts Maritime bested the Jumbos by three points to trail only regatta champion Northeastern.

Additionally, the Buccaneers posted a 15th place overall finish at the MIT Chris Loder Trophy over the weekend on the Charles River, as senior Kyle Brego (St. John, Virgin Islands) and freshman Maya Stephani (Chicago, Ill.) comprised Massachusetts Maritime's "A" entry while Dawson, Reed and junior Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) competed in the "B" vessel.  Tricky conditions prevailed in Cambridge throughout the weekend's races, as Tufts took top honors in the final team standings by topping both Yale and Boston College.

The Buccaneers return to action next weekend by heading to Hanover, N.H. to compete in the Dartmouth Hewitt Trophy Regatta.
