BURLINGTON, Vt. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team posted a solid ninth place finish among 16 teams competing over the weekend at the Lake Champlain Open hosted by the University of Vermont.

Freshman Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and junior Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” entry, while sophomores Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) sailed in the Buccaneer “B” boat.  Massachusetts Maritime posted consistent mid-fleet finishes in heavy winds and choppy waters, as the Buccaneers finished 10 points ahead of Coast Guard while also topping Northeastern and New Hampshire in the final standings.

Boston College took top honors in the competition with 56 points, while Bowdoin (70) and Dartmouth (72) followed in the runner-up and third place spots, respectively.

Massachusetts Maritime will host the Central Series Three Regatta next weekend at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center in Bourne, and the Buccaneers will also compete at the New Hampshire Chris Loder Trophy as well as the Rhode Island Salt Pond Invitational.
