NEWPORT, R.I. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team wrapped up its fall schedule over the weekend with a solid performance at the Salve Regina Sister Esther Open, which featured 20 teams from around New England.

Freshman Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) skippered the Buccaneer “A” entry along with freshman crew Jacquelynn Devore (Chesapeake, Va.), while the tandem of sophomore Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and freshman Catherine Haines (East Haddam, Conn.) comprised Massachusetts Maritime’s “B” vessel on Saturday.  Both boats moved closer to the front of the fleet during the opening day of competition that featured moderate winds, as they combine for three top four finishes.

Sunday’s action saw junior Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) sub in for Haines on the “A” team, while sophomore Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) joined Adam in the Buccaneer “B” boat.  Reeg and Sampou posted consistent mid-fleet performances during the final day, with Adam and Gratta posted a fourth place finish and a trio of top six times.

Massachusetts Maritime placed 10th overall in the final team standings but just seven points out of seventh place.  Boston University took top honors with 100 points, while Boston College (107) and Connecticut College (113 points) followed in the respective runner-up and third place positions.
