HANOVER, N.H./MEDFORD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team concluded its 2016 spring campaign with solid performances in changing conditions at the New England Championships hosted by Dartmouth and at the New Hampshire Mendums Pond Invitational hosted by Tufts over the weekend.

Juniors George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) and Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.) competed in the Buccaneer “A” boat at the Mendums Pond Invitational, while freshmen Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.), McKenna Jarvis (Dedham, Mass.) and Jonathan Baker (Marblehead, Mass.) sailed in the “B” vessel.  Shifting breezes made for tight racing in the event, as Massachusetts Maritime placed 11th in the 18-team field that saw Brown and Tufts take the respective top and runner-up spots.

Windless conditions in northwest New Hampshire hampered competitors at the New England Championships, as sunny conditions on Saturday saw partial racing take place but no official results recorded.  Rain and light winds greatly affected Sunday’s sailing, as freshmen Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” entry while sophomores Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) raced in the “B” boat.  Only four races were held in the afternoon due to the light wind conditions, as Massachusetts Maritime placed 16th in the final team standings that saw Roger Williams take the top spot over runner-up Boston University.
