Dinghy Sailing Begins Fall Schedule With Solid Performances At Maine Maritime, Roger Williams Over Weekend

Maine Maritime Penobscot Bay Open/Roger Williams Mt. Hope Bay Invitational

CASTINE, Maine/BRISTOL, R.I. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team began its fall schedule by competing in a pair of events over the weekend at the Maine Maritime Penobscot Bay Open and the Roger Williams Mount Hope Bay Invitational.

 

Sophomores Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” entry at Maine Maritime, while junior Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) and freshman Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) sailed in the “B” boat.  Both squads were consistent early in the competition with top three finishes in several races, as Massachusetts Maritime placed ninth out of 15 teams in the final standings.

 

Juniors George Luber (North Reddington Beach, Fla.) and Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat tandem at Roger Williams, while sophomore Christopher Dawson (Mashpee, Mass.) and freshman Evan Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) competed in the “B” vessel.  Massachusetts Maritime was also consistent in the early stages of the event and finished 12th out of 18 teams in the weekend competition.

 

The Buccaneers will head to Burlington, Vt. this weekend to compete at the Vermont Lake Champlain Open beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
