Offshore Sailing Records First, Second Place Finishes At Last Chance, New Bedford Yacht Club Regattas

DARTMOUTH, Mass./NEW BEDFORD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team took top honors in the Low Tide Yacht Club’s Last Chance Regatta on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers sailed in a pursuit style race with the fastest boats starting last according to handicap.  Additionally, Massachusetts Maritime placed second in the New Bedford Yacht Club’s season-ending regatta on Sunday, as a fleet of 14 vessels competed in the final race of the season to be held on Buzzards Bay.

 

The Spirit, whose crew was comprised of freshmen James Bouzan (Lakeville, Mass.), Joshua Raposa and Frank Rudigoz (Ketchum, Idaho), passed all five competitors in the Last Chance race by the third leg, which included Buccaneer entries Good Trade and Satan’s Microwave that were led by seniors Brandon Deal (Norton, Mass.) and Judson Yerkes (West Barnstable, Mass.), junior Joseph Dragon (Glen Arm, Md.) and freshmen Matthew Considine (Mansfield, Mass.) and Peter Weiler (Changewater, N.J.).

 

In Sunday’s event, Spirit placed second at New Bedford, with Satan’s Microwave third and Good Trade in sixth place.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will compete next weekend at the Rhode Island Sail for Hope Regatta.
