BOURNE, Mass./CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team had a busy weekend of competition, as the Buccaneers hosted the Central Series Three Regatta at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center while also competing at the University of New Hampshire Chris Loder Trophy.

The Central Series Three event was sailed in combined divisions, as freshmen Luis Castro Loza (Ponce, P.R.), Jules Schellenberg (Boston, Mass.), Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.) and Evan Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) comprised Massachusetts Maritime’s crews on the first day of competition.  Schaefer and Bowen cracked the top 10 repeatedly throughout the day, posting a pair of sixth place finishes, while Sunday saw sophomore Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) and freshman Jacquelynn Devore (Chesapeake, Va.) sub in for Castro Loza and Bowen, with Gratta skippering the vessel for the first time in his career.  Both squads enjoyed mid fleet finishes throughout the day on Sunday, as the Buccaneers posted an overall eighth place finish in the final team standings.

Freshman Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and junior Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) comprised the Buccaneer "A" entry at the Chris Loder Trophy, which was moved to MIT’s sailing pavilion from UNH, while juniors George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) and Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) sailed the Buccaneer "B" entry. Massachusetts Maritime posted mid-fleet finishes in the shifty conditions and flat water of the Charles River, as Reeg and Cassella posted a pair of top five finishes and placed seventh in the A division, just one point out of sixth place.

The Buccaneers finished just behind Salve Regina while topping Bates, UNH and UConn to place 12th overall in the final standings among 18 total competitors.  Boston University captured the top spot in the Loder Trophy, with Connecticut College and University of Vermont claiming the respective runner-up and third place spots.

Massachusetts Maritime will be in action next weekend at the Dartmouth Hewitt Trophy and Rhode Island Southern Series Four Regattas.
