BOURNE, Mass./FAIRFIELD, Conn. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team enjoyed a highly successful weekend of competition in two different venues, as the Buccaneers took top honors at the New England Dinghy Tournament hosted by Sacred Heart while recording a fifth place overall finish in the Admiral Alymer’s Trophy Regatta at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center.

Massachusetts Maritime won six of the first seven races on the waters off Long Island Sound in the New England tournament and never looked back, as the tandem of freshmen Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Jacquelynn Devore (Chesapeake, Va.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat while the duo of sophomores Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) sailed in the “B” vessel.  Conditions varied over the two day competition, as Massachusetts Maritime topped runner-up Johnson & Wales by 26 points and outdistanced third place New Hampshire by 34 points overall in the 10-team event.

Challenging winds on Herring Pond provided for difficult courses in the Admiral Alymer’s Trophy competition, as the Buccaneers were represented by junior George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) and freshman Evan Bowen (North Kingstown, R.I.) in the “A” boat along with junior Joseph Dragon (Glen Arm, Md.) and freshman Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.) in the “B” vessel.  Massachusetts Maritime posted a fifth place finish in the final standings with 86 points, as Tufts captured the overall title in the 13-team event.

Massachusetts Maritime will compete next weekend in events hosted by MIT and Rhode Island.
