BOURNE, Mass./FAIRFIELD, Conn./NEW LONDON, Conn.--  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team recorded a trio of top five finishes in three separate competitions over the weekend, as the Buccaneers hosted the O’Toole Trophy on Saturday at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center in Bourne while also traveling to the Fairfield Priddy Trophy and the Coast Guard NEISA Sportboat Invitational.

Sophomores Joseph Dragon (Glen Arm, Md.) and George Luber (North Reddington Beach, Fla.) represented Massachusetts Maritime in the “A” boat on Great Herring Pond, while freshmen Molly Cormican (South Weymouth, Mass.) and Patrick Kapp were in the “B” entry.  The Buccaneers cracked the top five on a pair of occasions and finished fifth overall among 12 O’Toole Trophy entrants.

At Fairfield, freshmen Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) were Massachusetts Maritime’s “A” entry, while sophomores Chris Dawson and Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) served as the “B” duo.  Both boats were consistently in the top half of the competition and posted an overall fourth place finish among nine teams in the Priddy Trophy.

On the Thames River in New London, juniors Alex Hunt and James Lamb (Taunton, Mass.), along with sophomores Kyle Brego (St. John, Virgin Islands) and Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.), crewed a J-70 in the seven boat competition, as the Buccaneers won a pair of races but lost a third place tiebreaker in the final standings to host Coast Guard in placing fourth overall.

Massachusetts Maritime wraps up its spring season next weekend with competition at the Rhode Island Southern Series Seven and UNH Mendums Pond Invitational.
