DURHAM, N.H.--  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing squad recorded a solid third place finish in blustery, rainy and snowy conditions over the weekend at the New England Fall Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire.

Sophomores Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.) and Matthew Woodward (Middleboro, Mass.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” entry in the event, while fellow sophomores George Luber (North Reddington Beach, Fla.) and Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) served as the “B” boat tandem.  Both vessels recorded consistent third place finishes in races on both days of the competition.

Additionally, Massachusetts Maritime competed in the Freshman Interconference Regatta/Tufts Nickerson Trophy in West Medford, Mass., as the freshman tandem of Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Cassandra Kolstad (Madison, Conn.) comprised the "A" boat and fellow freshmen Alexander Calderwood (Brewster, Mass.) and Monica Chilcot (Plymouth, Mass.) were the Buccaneer "B" boat duo.  Very windy and rainy conditions also prevailed in the competition, as Massachusetts Maritime finished 12th overall in the 20-boat fleet.

Massachusetts Maritime will head to Annapolis, Md. next weekend for the national championship of offshore sailing, the Navy John F. Kennedy Cup Regatta, while the Buccaneer dinghy squad will compete at the Salve Regina Ester Open.
