Cross Country Finishes Fifth and Sixth at Endicott

HAMILTON, Mass – Saturday morning the men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at the Endicott College Cross Country Invitational in Hamilton, Mass. In a field of 10 teams, the Buccaneer men finished fifth while the women finished sixth in a field of seven teams.

For the men, senior Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass) finished the 8k course in 30:08, the best for Maritime and 13th overall. Junior Alex Imperillo (Chelmsford, Mass) finished second for the Bucs, 23rd overall, with a time of 31:14. All of the Maritime runners who received points in the meet finished in the top 50 of a total of 84 runners. Freshman Michael Fappiano-Puttre (New Ipswich, Mass) finished third for the Bucs, 31st overall with a time of 32:16. Senior Kyle Hansen (North Chelmsford, Mass) finished fourth for the team, 32nd overall with a final time of 32:25. Freshman Ben Tuttle (Barre, Mass) rounded out the top five for the Buccaneers finishing 35th overall with a time of 32:33, helping the Academy to their fifth place finish.

The Maritime women who picked up points in the sixth place finish also all finished in the top 50 of total of 80 runners. Sophomore Lily Hakkarainen (Chesterfield, N.H.) led the way for the Bucs with a finishing time of 23:08. She finished 28th overall. Sophomore Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass) was the second finisher for Maritime in the 34th spot overall with a final time of 24:55. Freshmen Alyssa Greico (Andover, Mass) and Sue Bird (Duxbury, Mass) finished third and fourth for the Bucs, 36th and 37th overall, respectively with times of 25:36 and 25:59. Sophomore Victoria Flausino (Philadelphia, Penn) rounded out the Buccaneer top five with a time of 28:14, finishing 40th overall.

The Buccaneers travel to Biddeford, Maine on Saturday, September 14th to take part in the University of New England Invitational.
