Galvin Sets Pace As Men's Cross Country Posts 30th Place Finish At All-Divisions UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams posted solid performances in a field consisting of runners from across all divisions at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneer men finished 30th overall while the Buccaneer women placed 38th in the competition.

 

Senior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) set the pace once again on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as he placed 123rd individually in a field of 315 runners with a time of 28:17 over the 8K layout.  Freshman Alex Imperillo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) were next with respective 182nd and 185th place finishing times of 30:07 and 30:11, while sophomore Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman Zach Ferreira (Stoughton, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective times of 30:20 and 30:30 that were good for 190th and 195th places.  Division I UMass Lowell took top team honors with a score of 82 points to edge out runner-up Brandeis by three points, while Salisbury (Md.) finished third with 132 points.

 

Sophomore Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) led the way for the Massachusetts Maritime women’s squad for a second straight week, as she covered the 5K layout in a time of 23:10.43 to finish 223rd individually in a field of 299 competitors.  Senior Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Sara Merzon (Rockland, Mass.) followed in 252nd and 270th place, respectively, with times of 25:17.96 and 28:31.42, while freshman Michelle Campbell (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Jill Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 280th and 281st finishing times of 30:58.45 and 31:05.30.  Division II Assumption claimed the team title with a score of 56 points, as the Greyhounds bested runner-up Trinity (87) and third place Brandeis (99) in the final standings.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads travel to Wenham, Mass. next Saturday to compete at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m.
