Galvin, Plumb Record Top Nine Finishes As Men's Cross Country Places Fourth At Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams combined to record a pair of solid top eight performances at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneer men placed fourth of 13 teams while the Buccaneer women posted an eighth place finish of 12 teams competing in the event.

 

Senior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) continued his string of standout performances on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as he finished seventh in a field of 106 runners with a time of 29:00.4 over the 8K layout.  Sophomore Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass.) added a top 10 finish of his own by placing ninth individually in a time of 29:20.1, while senior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) was next in 23rd place with a time of 30:39.2.  Freshman Alex Imperillo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Zach Ferreira (Stoughton, Mass.) rounded on the Buccaneer scoring with respective 25th and 33rd place times of 30:39.8 and 31:28.4, as Massachusetts Maritime posted a team score of 92 points to finish six back of third place Gordon.  The University of New England took top honors with a score of 34 points to best runner-up Nichols (81) in the final standings.

 

Sophomore Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace for a third straight week for the Buccaneer women’s squad, as she covered the 5K layout in a time of 22:27.8 to finish 44th in a field of 125 competitors.  Sophomore Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and senior Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) were next with respective 55th and 78th place times of 23:09.4 and 25:27.8, while juniors Rachael George (Mashpee, Mass.) and Sara Merzon (Rockland, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring by posting 90th and 91st place finishing times of 27:33.7 and 27:52.3.  The University of New England also claimed the women’s crown with a team score of 30 points in the event to top host Gordon (48) and third place Rhode Island College (95).

 

Massachusetts Maritime will host the 13th Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Falcon Golf Course on Joint Base Cape Cod in Bourne, as the women’s race begins at 4:00 p.m. followed by the men’s race at 4:30 p.m.
