13^th Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams tuned up for the upcoming conference championships by recording solid performances at the 13^th Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, as the Buccaneer men placed 11^th of 23 teams in the event while the Buccaneer women’s squad finished 17^th overall in the competition.

Senior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) led the way on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime for a sixth straight week, as he covered the 8K layout in a time of 29:05 to finish 51^st of 196 runners in the event.  Sophomore Steven Savoy (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Alex Imperillo (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed with times of 29:59 and 30:10 that were good for respective 75^th and 79^th place finishes, while senior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Alex Ferreira (Stoughton, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 86^th and 95^th place times of 30:36 and 31:11.  Wentworth took top honors in the competition with a score of 32 points, while Colby-Sawyer (100) and Roger Williams (113) finished in the runner-up and third place spots.

Sophomore Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace for a sixth straight week as well on the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she covered the 5K course in a time of 22:43 to finish 84^th of 210 runners in the event.  Sophomore Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and senior Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) were next in 105^th and 153^rd place with respective times of 23:26 and 26:14, while juniors Sara Merzon (Rockland, Mass.) and Jill Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with times of 128:05 and 28:44 that were good for 170^th and 179^th place, respectively.  Gordon claimed the team crown with a score of 66 points, while Plymouth State (93) and Roger Williams (100) followed in the runner-up and third place positions.

Both Massachusetts Maritime teams will be idle until Saturday, October 28^th when the Buccaneers travel to Westfield, Mass. to compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championships at Stanley Park, as the women’s race begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men’s race at Noon.
