Dannaher, Matz Lead Men's Cross Country To 23rd Place Team Finish At UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men's cross country team placed 23rd of 37 teams competing at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers posted a team score of 700 points while placing 17th among Division III entrants and third among MASCAC competitors.

Junior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) was the top individual performer for Massachusetts Maritime, as he covered the five mile layout in a time of 26:56 that was good for 90th place.  Junior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) was next in 142nd place with a time of 27:55, while the trio of freshmen Aram Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.) and Chad McCarthy (Sutton, Mass.), along with senior Matt Sturgis (Cummaquid, Mass.), finished 165th, 166th and 167th, respectively, for the Buccaneers with times of 28:42, 28:43 and 28:44 on the day.

Keene State took top team honors with a score of 68 points, while Stonehill (96 points) and Southern Maine (107 points) finished in second and third place, respectively.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to New London, Conn. next Saturday morning to compete at the Connecticut College Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
