Men's Cross Country Opens Season With Second Place Finish In Travis Fuller Invitational

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth claimed the top Men's team finish as well as the top individual spot in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational Cross-Country race at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday.

Freshman harrier Kevin Gilmore (Hanson, Mass. /Whitman-Hanson) claimed first place honors in the 8K race posting a time of 26:02 while the Corsairs captured first place as a team with 25 points.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy took second place in the annual classic with a team total of 57 points. Freshman Jonathan Quigley (Braintree, Mass./Archbishop Williams) was the top runner for the Buccaneers claiming sixth place overall in a time of 27:10.

Herrel Siller (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) of Newbury College took second overall at 26:12 in the field of 79 runners. Eric Holmes (Abington, Mass./Abington) of U-Mass Dartmouth finished third at 26:15, with fellow Corsair Derek Stevens (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) on his heels at 26:16.

Stephen Armstrong (Revere, Mass./Revere) of Emmanuel College rounded out the top five posting a mark of 27:06.

Kyle Ingersoll (Wakefield, Mass./Stoneham) of Massachusetts Maritime finished in ninth place at 27:35, with teammate Paul Matz Plainville, Mass./King Philip) taking 11th at 28:07. Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va./Trinity) was also in the pack for the Bucs finishing 13th at 28:26.

Emerson College ran third (118 pts) in the field of eight competing schools with Emmanuel College (132 pts) fourth and U-Mass Boston (137 pts) rounding out the top five.
