How It Happened
Calvert scored right out of the gate for the Buccaneers. In the sixth minute, John Burke delivered a ball over the heads of the Westfield defenders. Calvert took the pas, dribbled past three Owls, and found the back of the net to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage. Despite five more shots from the Buccaneers and six from the Owls in the first half, neither team scored again, and Maritime held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, it remained 1-0 Maritime, though the Owls found another gear and stayed on the attack much of the second forty-five minutes. Outshooting the Bucs 14-5 in the second half, Westfield finally found a way through in the 81st minute. On a loose ball that Margolis flicked past the final Maritime defender, Hebert was in the right place at the right time and put the ball past Joia to tie the game, 1-1. A physical final nine minutes, there was no more scoring, with each team claiming a point from the 1-1 draw.
