Bucs Fall to Colonels on the Road

MILTON, Mass – Wednesday night, the Buccaneers traveled to Milton to take on Curry College in their first road game of the season. Coming off of a 1-1 draw against Suffolk in their opener on Saturday, the Buccaneers dropped their Wednesday night matchup with the Colonels, 3-2, in a game that saw five second half goals.

Buccaneer sophomore Liam McDonough (West Newbury, Mass) and freshman McNeill Somers (Dorchester, Mass) scored their first career goals in the loss. Freshman Rob Rutkai (Annapolis, Md) was credited with his first career assist on Somers' goal in the 83^rd minute. The Buccaneers took 16 total shots, nine on target. Goalkeeper Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, Mass) made four saves in the game on seven shots faced while allowing the three Colonel goals.

Curry's Kuda Muhlauri scored two of the team's three goals in the game on two shots on target while also recorded an assist. Midfielder Nolan Reimondo scored the other goal for the hosts. Jonathan Sarkis was credited with an assist.The Colonels took 12 shots, seven of which were on target. Goalkepper Paul DeMaio saw nine shots from the Bucs, saving seven and allowing the two Maritime goals.

With the exception of rain and a Maritime yellow card, the first half of the Buccaneers second game of the 2019 season was uneventful. There were eight total shots between the two teams in the first 45 minutes, five from the Bucs. The teams went to the halftime break tied at 0-0.

The second half began much like the entire first half went, uneventful. Then, in the 59^th minute, Reimondo broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal. It was his second of the season. Under two minutes late, the Colonels broke the game open on Muhlauri's first goal, assisted by Ali Pungi.

In a 2-0 hole, the Buccaneer struck in the 71^st minute on McDonough's first career goal, unassisted. But, Curry would answer four minutes later on Muhlauri's second goal of the day to take a 3-1 lead.

Back down two goals, the Buccaneers needed a spark and they got a late one from a pair of freshman. In the 83^rd minute Somers netted his first goal in a Maritime uniform on a pass from Rutkai. The deficit slimming goal would not be followed by a game tying score and the Buccaneers fell, 3-2, to Curry to fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

The Buccaneers travel to Castine, Maine on Friday to take part in the first Maritime Soccer Cup against Maine and SUNY Maritime over the weekend. The Bucs will face off against the host Mariners on Friday night at 7:30pm.
