Buccaneers Downed in Overtime by Lancers to Finish 2018 Season

Worcester, Mass -- The Buccaneers fell to the Worcester State Lancers by a score of 2-1 on Friday night in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Coughlin Field in the final regular season game for both teams.

With the loss, The Buccaneers fall to 5-11-1, 1-6 in MASCAC, to complete their 2018 campaign. The Lancers improve their record to 7-8-2, 4-2-1 in MASCAC, and will head to the MASCAC playoffs, beginning on Tuesday.

The first half was mostly uneventful. Each team had a few opportunities, but neither could find the back of the net. The score remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes. The Buccaneers outshot the Lancers seven to five.

In the 66th minute of action Stephen Froio (Auburn, Mass) dribbled through two defenders and scored, unassisted, for his fifth goal of the season for the Bucs.

Less than a minute later, the Lancers quickly tied the score back up as Bryan Brasil and Tomas Caneira set Ethan Melia up for the comeback goal in the second half.

The teams drew even until five minutes into overtime when Brasil took control of the ball and netted his seventh goal of the season on senior day to win the game for the Lancers.

Henri Guilmette earned the win, recording seven saves in the effort. Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, Mass) recorded the loss for Mass. Maritime with two saves in the game.
