Bucs Sink against Rams in Conference Play

FRAMINGHAM, Mass – The Bucs travelled to Framingham Saturday afternoon to play Framingham State in conference play at Maple Street Field. Thought the Bucs outshot the Rams, the Rams outscored Maritime winning the game by a 5-2 final score.

The Buccaneers totaled 18 shots, six of which were on target and two finding the back of the net. Sophomore AJ Bubencik (Foxboro, Mass) and freshman Shane MacNeil (Braintree, Mass) scored the goals for Maritime in the 30^th and 48^th minutes respectively. Assisting on the goals were Benjamin Cook (Fort Myers, Fla) and Justin Burns (Walpole, Mass). Senior goalie, Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass) saved seven of the 12 shots he faces but fell to 2-2 on the year in net for the Bucs.

Framingham got off one less shot than the Buccaneers but tallied double the shots on target, including the five that got past Murphy. There were four different Rams goal scorers, Bryce Nardizzi leading the way with two goals. Isaac De Souza scored a goal of his own and assisted on two others. Goalkeeper, Corey Davidge allowed the two Academy goals and saved four shots in the match.

Framingham scored in the 14^th minute to take an early 1-0 advantage. 15 minutes later, they would add a second on Nardizzi's first goal of the day. Down 2-0, the Buccaneers needed and answer and they got a quick on thanks to the leg of Bubencik as he scored two minutes after Nardizzi to cut the Ram lead in half. Of the ensuing kickoff, FSU regained their two goal advantage on De Souza's goal in the 31^st minute. The first half ended at the same 3-1 score.

In the second half, The Buccaneers cut the Ram advantage back to one on MacNeil's 48^th minute score. Following the second Buccaneer goal, the Framingham defense locked down the Buc attack while also picking up two yellow cards. The Buccaneers would get no closer but Framingham would add goals in the 58^th and 77^th minutes to run out to the 5-2 advantage that would eventually become the final.

With the loss, the Bucs fall to 4-8-1 on the season, 1-4 in the MASCAC. Framingham improves to 8-5-2 overall with the win and 3-0-2 in conference.

Next up for the Buccaneers is a trip to the Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday, October 16^th for a 7pm kickoff.
